This course assumes a basic interest/skill/commitment to writing creative content, either in the form of poetry, short fiction or nonfiction. The three stages of this course concern preparation of your work, submission to publishers, and what to do next.
What Will I Learn?
This course takes you through the process of preparation, submitting your creative writing, and building your platform as an author.
At the “preparation” stage, you will work out your starting-point as a writer in terms of form and genre; you will decide on a workable reading/writing routine; you will look at how to polish your work ready to send to publishers, and you will begin to decide on how to present yourself as a writer.
At the “submission” stage, you will look at what kinds of work to submit, how, where and when; the rationale behind the rules; and how to keep track of your submitted work.
At the “building” stage, we discuss coping with rejections and other pitfalls; building your author presence on social media and other online venues; and possible future directions.
